DoD Industry Investigation Metrics Update

The National Background Investigation Bureau (NBIB) released the latest metrics as of the end of August 2019 regarding background investigation processing and timelines for DoD Industry contractors. Quoting strategic terms such as surging, hubbing, and focus area, the NBIB seems to have made significant progress on cutting down the backlogs. Keep in mind, these are only DoD Industry statistics. Here are the highlights:

  • 23,710 new investigations scheduled in August
  • 28,505 investigation were closed in August
  • 1,042 investigations were discontinued or canceled by the requesting entity
  • 52,705 investigations in progress pending completion

If you are interested in viewing the full statistics chart go here. Amid promises of a seamless transition of the Defense Security Service (DSS) and NBIB getting absorbed into the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), many questions have arisen regarding the current investigative service companies and whether or not they all will continue providing background investigation support. Investigators on our discussion board seem to have little or no information and can only speculate on what the DCSA is planning on doing and how it will impact their job security. These are stressful times for many and the lack of transparency coming out of DCSA only adds to the uncertainty.

  1. Hi Marko,

Thank you for posting the article. I was wondering if there was any info on investigation timelines for non-DOD, non-intel positions?
